Wood is an essential resource needed for constructing buildings and all types of troops. While almost all activities use some wood resources, it is especially important to have wood for the early development of your city when you are initially starting out. Wood is produced by timber mills, which are slower to build than cropland but quicker to build than copper mines.

Another way to obtain wood is by invading forests.

Timber mills are required to complete the Forestry, Lumber and Logistics tasks.

It is important to have lots of wood when you're just starting out, especially when you start to train large armies of swordsmen, because swordsmen consume a lot of wood in their production (150/ swordsman). You will also need copious amounts of wood in order to train large armies of archers, as each archer needs 250 wood.
